So I forgot to mention yesterday that we are having photos taken in a couple of weeks. We haven't had family photo's done since Ellie was 10 weeks old. Thankfully we get to use the same photographer and I just adore her - we actually met at Summer Camp when we were in Jr. High, so we go way back!
The problem is when it comes to family photos you have to coordinate your outfits and make sure that they are true to your style and will look good in your home. So it can be quite a challenge to figure out what everyone is going to wear.
Green is a common color seen throughout my home...because it's my favorite color (which may or may not have anything to do with my birthday being on St. Patrick's Day). So of course I gravitated to green in our last family photos (and for Ellie's 1st year of photos...) and I am tempted to do it again....please don't judge me.
Given that these are going to be Holiday photos I kind of want to go with that theme of sorts. I already have my outfit picked out and now I just have to figure out what Thomas and Ellie are going to don.
Here is my first option:
When I think of the holidays (Christmas in particular) I think about plaid. It is just the quintessential Christmas pattern. I had to thread green in the whole thing, because it's my favorite. The good news about this whole thing is we have almost everything already! So that makes this option super easy on the budget.
Mama:
My outfit sports two items from my latest shipment from Stitch Fix, the Green Dolman Top and the Liverpool Skinny jeans (which just so happen to be on repeat all the time!) then I wanted to pair it with the awesome Blanket Scarf similar I picked up a couple weekends ago and then my faithful boots from good ol' Tar-jay similar!!
Dada:
Keeping with the plaid theme, I'm thinking Thomas can wear his green shirt similar, jeans and then I haven't decided if he should wear a sweater over the shirt or one of his vests (he wears one almost daily to work). I think that with the sweater you would only see peeks of the plaid but that might be nice so it's not too overbearing. He has a cool pair of lace up grey/black shoes that would go nicely but I think I like the look of the brown shoes. Either way he has everything in his closet already, unless we want to invest in a different plaid shirt.
Ellie:
Even though there are so many cute clothes out there for the little's, Ellie's outfit was probably the most challenging. I want her to be in something that is similar to what I usually put her in but I also wanted her to look extra cute. A few weeks ago I bought these pants and I think they are going to be the perfect blend for our pictures. Last year I picked up a faux fur vest for her similar, that I think will add the little bit of whimsy I'm looking for and it will look adorable over the denim dress (that I will have to get if we go with this option). Then to get the touch of green I desire I can just use a bow that I picked up off of Zulily back in March for St. Patrick's Day. Finally since we will be taking the pictures outside in a park I'm thinking that Ellie should wear boots, similar.
And here is my second option:
Focusing on the theme of red. Red really is the color of the Christmas season (thank you Santa) and why not jump on board with it. We actually have a surprising amount of this color in our home so I am confident that these photos will look good on the walls as well. Going this route means that we will all be wearing jeans and I kind of like that.
Mama:
Same as option 1 because I am 100% smitten with it.
Dada:
Pants and shoes will remain the same. The difference will be with getting him a dark red dress shirt to wear under one of his vests. I can see this look being very smart and totally holiday.
Ellie:
Again this was difficult as I was trying to figure out what items we already have and then it just all came together. I am in love with this sweater (in the dark grey) and we actually already have it so that is good and paired up with some jeans, similar, we have on hand. I can pull in the red with some boots, similar, that Nanny picked up while visiting family in Nebraska and then bring in some fun with a "darc" or scarf. Ellie and I received a matching set from Etsy for Christmas last year and she is just obsessed with them right now, similar here.
Sometimes it's hard to get these outfits to look good together and flow well without being too matchy matchy, you know since we are no longer living in the 90's....my siblings and I actually have one of those pictures where we are all basically in the same thing...It was cool back then, right?
Are you getting family photos done this year? What are you wearing? Which option would you go with?

I like the first set!
ReplyDeleteI really like both options! I think I'd go with the first option. Now I need to start thinking about outfit options for our family photos!
ReplyDeleteLove both looks. I'm going to try to convince my hubby to take a family photo this weekend. I really want to send out a Christmas card this year. It's our first married Christmas and something I've been looking forward to since forever. Can't wait to see how your pictures turn out!
ReplyDeleteTotally digging the green outfit options! I love how Ellie will be the star of the show in that fur vest!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the first option, the second is really great too! We have yet to take fall pictures and I think were just going to hold off until there some snow near the mountain. Finding outfits is easily the hardest/best parts of getting photos taken though!
ReplyDelete1st option :)
ReplyDeleteAaaahhhh I like option #1 too. I can not wait to see how they turn out!
