[recipe] Homemade Naan

My husband and I like  LOVE Indian Food.  We are so grateful to have a great restaurant so close to our house.  Not only do we enjoy going out for Indian Food but we really like making it at home.

Mushroom Butter Chicken and Homemade Naan YUM!!

A couple of weeks ago my Love and I made Indian food.  We just use the jars of Indian Simmer Sauce that you find in the Ethnic aisle at your grocery store.

We got a jar of Butter Chicken to make.  We cut up the chicken, added some Mild Curry Paste (also found jarred in the same aisle), cayenne pepper and some White Button Mushrooms that we sliced up.  We also like to add sliced onion (that we saute) as well as some green bell pepper (also sauteed) but we were out on this particular day so we just added the mushrooms.

As for the Naan this was a pretty good recipe.  It only takes about 45 minutes to prepare, as opposed to those taking 4 hours.  This is because there is NO yeast, just a 30 minute resting time.

Here is the recipe for the Naan.

Easy Naan

Ingredients:

2 c All Purpose Flour
1 T Baking Powder
1 tsp Ground Cumin
1 tsp Salt
2/3 Warm Water (almost boiling)
1/3 c Sour Cream

Directions:

1.  Place a pizza stone in the oven and Pre-Heat to 450.  (if no stone available put in a cookie sheet)

2. Sift the dry ingredients together then put into the bowl of a stand mixer.  Add in the Water and Sour Cream and mix together with the dough hook until all combined.  It will be sticky. (if not using a stand mixer use either a wooden spoon or a hand mixer)

3. Place dough on a sheet of plastic wrap and loosely close up.  Set aside on the counter and cover with a dishtowel.  Let stand for 30 minutes.

4. Lightly flour work surface and rolling pin.  Cut dough into 5 or 6 strips.  Roll out to about 1/4 inch thick.  Brush with some melted butter.  Place onto pizza stone/cookie sheet and bake for about 5-6 minutes.  Let cool slightly and then enjoy!

**Variations:
  • For Wheat Naan use 1 cup AP flour and 1 cup whole wheat flour continue with remaining ingredients.
  • You can add 2 Tablespoons ground Flax seed.
  • Add a finely minced garlic clove to the dough for Garlic Naan.
  • Top with chopped Cilantro
  • Try cooking it on the BBQ
Hope you enjoy making your own Easy Naan!!
