Live and Learn - Lucky

Often times I feel that we get stuck the negativeness in our lives.  While I am pretty much a glass is half full girl, it is always nice to be reminded of all the blessings we have in our lives.  It becomes even more important to see life this way when a child comments on how "lucky" you are.

Last week was National Infertility Awareness Week and as many of you know this is a disease I have been fighting for nearly 5 1/2 years.  As I have mentioned in previous posts I am constantly reminded of my inability to conceive and carry to term a baby.  Its easy to get sucked up in the negativity and woe is me camp.  In addition their are always going to be other struggles in ones life: job security (or lack there of in my case), family relations, finances, house problems, and loss (of my mom and more recently of my beloved horse).

I was snapped out of this the other day from a comment that was made to my by my young neighbors friend.  By young I mean 1st grade.

I know that I am lucky and blessed but sometimes its hard to see.

I was out back in the pasture with our goats and horses letting Ellie "pet" the animals, when my neighbor girl came up to the fence with her best friend.  They began asking questions about my animals (including the chickens) and I was sharing stories about them.
It wasn't too long into our conversation that my neighbor's friend exclaimed
"YOU ARE SO LUCKY!!"

And that is when it struck me: Yes, sweetie, I am lucky.  I am living the dream.  Well my dream anyway, of being on a farm with my animals and learning how to be self sufficient
(at least to a degree).

I needed that reminder.  Right then and there.  I was having one of those days where instead of counting my blessings I was wallowing in my sorrows.  Since that day I have been mindful to continue to see my glass as half full.  Thank you little one!

Kids often have much more wisdom than we give them credit for!

  2. What a great reminder. And I believe that you should never say something won't happen. B/c with God anything is possible. Look to him and pray and have trust and faith in him.
